Everyone noticed when Buffet, the world's second richest person, gave approximately $30 billion to the foundation run by the world's richest person. All that money came with conditions, however. It could not be used to simply to add to the Gates Foundation endowment. Instead, it will essentially double the volume of the type of giving the Gates Foundation has been doing.

This is a sound principle for giving. Be certain that the the money you provide causes something to happen that would not occur otherwise.
